Earn College Credit in High School

Get a head start building your college transcript while you're still in high school. This can be achieved by attending Concurrent Enrollment classes in your very own high school and/or by taking Dual Enrollment courses on the LCCC campus. College credits may also be earned by taking AP Courses and earning appropriate scores on the exams.

Why take college classes in high school?

Improve performance and demonstrate increased maturity levels at work and in the classroom.

Meet graduation requirements in high school (with your counselor's awareness).

Concurrent Enrollment

Students can earn LCCC college credit in classes that are offered at their own high school! By taking an approved Concurrent course in the high school, the grade for the course will be recorded on both a high school transcript and the student's LCCC college transcript.

If you are taking a class that has prerequisites, you must meet the prerequisite, which could be your GPA from the previous semester, ACT scores, or high school or other LCCC courses completed (must have a grade of C or higher). Your high school teacher also has discretion to override the prerequisite in certain circumstances.

Registration for Concurrent Enrollment is due at the beginning of the semester
Concurrent Enrollment course and grades will appear on both high school and college transcripts and will be factored into GPA at both institutions.
Save your syllabus! Transferring credits to another college will be easier if you have your syllabi.
Remember that if you attend a college other than LCCC that you will need to request that LCCC send your transcript to the school you’re attending to receive credit for this course.

Dual Enrollment

Juniors and seniors in the LCCC service area school districts may take one free class per semester directly through LCCC as long as the course is being used to meet high school graduation or state scholarship requirements. Dual enrollment classes are offered at LCCC either on campus or online.

If you are taking a class that has prerequisites, you must meet the prerequisite, which could be your GPA from the previous semester, ACT scores, or high school or other LCCC courses completed (must have a grade of C or higher).

Check with your Alpha Counselor or at LCCC for registration dates.
The registration process is as follows:
- Apply to LCCC
- Meet with your Alpha Counselor to select appropriate class and section,
  - Use this link for the LCCC Course Catalog
- Contact your admissions rep from your LCCC email to enroll in the course.
- Follow up with your Alpha Counselor when enrollment is confirmed.

• Check the LCCC Course Catalog to see if there are spots open in the course you want.
• Students will be able to take 4 dual enrollment and unlimited concurrent enrollment courses free of charge.
• Students will still need to potentially purchase course materials.
• There are general education courses and elective courses. Elective courses are more likely to have pre-requisites.
• Online courses sometimes do require synchronous learning times that will need to be considered as part of their high school schedule.
• The enrollment process would be the same as other dual courses. For questions, please reach out to your LCCC representatives.
