Students that are unable to complete the assessment because of Tier 2 or Tier 3 restrictions may be allowed to take the district assessment via CANVAS. The following guidelines must be met.
1. The Unit 1 exam is given at the end of Unit 1 instruction. It is scheduled to be completed around the third week of October.
2. The exam is work 49 points. Grades should be recorded as total points.
3. The exam is CLOSED book and CLOSED notes. The student if taking this assessment via remote learning may not have assistance.
4. All close ended responses will be recorded via scantron when possible and returned to the social studies coordinator. Samples of the extended response questions will also be given to the social studies coordinator for analysis.
5. This test may not be used as a pre-test.
6. Retakes will follow the district retake guidelines.
Please note the district re-take policy:
- Students will be permitted one retake opportunity per GVC assessment.
- The retake will be of the entire test, not just the questions missed.
- Missing class work must be completed prior to re-taking the assessment.
- The student must attend remediation for the standard(s) that were not mastered on the GVC.
- The student must retake the GVC assessment during the 2–3-week window following the original test.
- Students will be given the opportunity to receive full credit on the retake.
- The higher grade of the two GVC assessments will be recorded in the gradebook.
- If a student refuses to take the assessment, principals will intervene to ensure all students take the assessment. Principals will report the status of missing GVC assessments and subsequent interventions to District Leadership.
