Sociology Unit 4 The Changing Social World

1. This exam contains two parts and is to be administered at the end of instruction for unit 5. Part one is the paper/pencil assessment while part two is a project.
2. Seniors will be required to take ONLY part one. An X (excused) should be recorded for seniors in relation to part 2.
3. Part one of this exam is worth 65 points. Part two is worth 50 points.
4. The written exam is a closed book, closed note exam.

The assessment over this section will be two parts.  The first part will be a paper and pencil form testing your knowledge of vocabulary, main ideas and theories.  The second part will be a production task that you may complete with 1 partner over any type of social movement.   

PART 1:  PAPER PENCIL ASSESSMENT  (65 points) 

This part of the test will be similar to the other assessments given this year including matching, multiple choice and short answer sections.  Main ideas and vocabulary from Chapter 15 and Chapter 16 will be assessed. 

PART 2:  APPLYING KNOWLEDGE TO MAKE A PRODUCT  (50 points) 

You will choose any social movement you would like to research more.  Your job is to apply all social movement vocabulary* using your chosen movement (see list below).   You may work in and out of class to complete this project.  You will only be given 2 block periods and one Friday period of in-class time to work.  You will present your projects to the class.  

*Vocabulary Terms to be included:  type of movement (reactionary, conservative, revisionary, or revolutionary), agitation, legitimation, bureaucratization, institutionalization, social change, and  ideology.  

 Classify what type of movement yours is and explain why it would be classified as that type 

1.  Identify the goal(s) of the movement.  What is your movement trying to change? 

2. Identify the leaders of the movement.  

3. Make inferences about what type of people would be attracted to the movement and why. 

4.  Determine methods the social movement has utilized to get their message out. 

5.  Determine if the social movement has had any successes. What were they or why weren’t they successful?
