Land Taken From Native Americans in the West

Before Europeans started immigrating to North America and establishing territory on the continent, Native American tribes frequently fought with each other for control of land. Before, during, and after the American Revolution, European immigrants and the state and federal governments they established fought with Native Americans to acquire and hold land. The U.S. state and Federal governments also negotiated treaties with land-holding native tribes to acquire even more native lands. The map below shows how that process of giving up (ceding) land continued in the American West. Eventually the U.S. government tried to put Native Americans on reservations. Analyze the map to answer questions about Native American lands in the wet.
